Impossible to register/get balance

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I received a Vanilla Visa card as a gift and used it for a couple of purchases. Afterwards, I wanted to check the remaining balance so I went to their site and clicked "Register Now". Instead of taking me to a page where I could register my card or view my balance, it just refreshed the login page. Since I can't register, I can't login so I have no way of knowing how much is left on the card. This is ridiculous! Why have a login page if no one is able to ever login!? Their way of keeping more of your money.

HUGE SCAM, going to spread the word that these prepaid cards suck

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Bought the card to try and buy something online. Did not work. Activation process is a waste of time, not like a gift card. The store (I bought this card at Walgreens) would not refund the money back to me and now I have to call the 1(800) number and might take a few days/weeks to get my refund back?! Plus they won't refund me the "activation fee" as well?! Well this company sure does know how to *** off customers. I have used it once before and it worked internationally, but now it only works in the USA?? What a load of BS. Waste of TIME AND MONEY KEEP YOUR CASH EVERYONE.

Paid $154.95 cash for this gift card. When it was used for a purchase it was refused. Neither CVS or Vanilla Visa would give me an immediate refund or replacement. They sold me a defective card. There trips to CVS and aver 2 hours on the phone and still NO REFUND. It is 15 days they have held my money hostage. Currently I am waiting to talk to another supervisor at Vanilla Visa. The last supervisor I spoke with named Oscar was totally clueless. He is very inept ! Never Ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever buy a Vanilla Visa ; especially from CVS.

THIS IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I bought the card. Paid to to have $20 loaded on it. Was charged the $20 and the $4.95 activation fee. Opened the card and tried to use it online purchase, did not work. Tried to use the card again at a grocery store, did not work. I was told you can not go back to where you bought it, you have to call the 877-770-**** on the back. I called and now after asking a lot of identity questions - you have to fax or email them the receipt & your Driver's license. So now I feel that I just got scammed $24.95 dollars and gave them my information so they can use for Identity Theft. This totally blows.

Gift Card didn't work. Won't refund money

I purchased 2 $50 Vanilla Visa gift cards from CVS Pharmacy on May 5th, 2014. The cost including their service charge was 111.90. The CVS clerk apparently activated the card before giving it to me.

I gifted the gift card to my kids teachers the next day. After a few days they came back and returned the cards saying it didn’t work at the store and that they had tried calling the help number on the card but they could resolve the problem. I was embarrassed that I had put them through this trouble.

Anyway, I took the gift cards and went to CVS Pharmacy on May 27 to return it and get credit back. The same lady at the counter that sold it to me said it can’t be returned because they had activated it when they sold it and I would need to talk to Vanilla Visa by calling the number on the card.

I called Vanilla Visa and was told that CVS Pharmacy had not activated the gift card. I tried arguing that they would not handle the case and since I didn’t spend the money and I couldn’t use the card, they should refund me my money but they refused.

So I went back to CVS and talked to the Manager at the store and she said they would not be able to help me.

Obviously, in addition to the hassle of having to get the cards back from who I gifted to, I’ve spent more than 2 hours trying to get the money refunded to me with no resolution

Purchased a card from a CVS store. Gave the representative money in the store to activate on the card.

The card did not work. I lost the card in the interim. After going through several representatives and finally speaking to a Supervisor I was informed to fax or email receipt along with a valid ID. Followed the directions of the Supervisor.

Was told the issue was being forwarded to the fraud department, it should only take 3-5 business days for resolve. Two weeks later, I'm being told I was given the wrong information and there is nothing they can do about it. Complete frustration, lost of money, time, etc. The representatives were very unprofessional and frankly did not care that I was out of my money.

Unbelievable there is no tracking process for lost of cards and no one is willing to assist, especially considering I provided proof of purchase(receipt).

There is nothing that says on a receipt or the card that when a card is lost or stolen your money is not refundable! Will not recommend this card to anyone!

This card is a JOKE!!! Just purchased and activated a Vanilla Visa from the Thurmont, Md.

Weis Friday Jan. 23, 2015 and loaded it up(or so I thought) with $500 to book a train ($149)from Union Station DC to Penn Station NYC(the card is SUPPOSED to be accepted anywhere you see the Visa logo) and was denied??? The look on the Amtrak Clerks face instantly turned gloomy when I told him I would like to pay using the card and said they have had MANY problems with the Vanilla Visa Cards being REJECTED so they don't accept them??? I reminded him this card is SUPPOSED to be accepted ANYWHERE you see the Visa Logo and DEMANDED he try to swipe the card, which he did SEVERAL TIMES and I watched as the card was REJECTED OVER, AND OVER, AND OVER AGAIN!!!

Let me REPEAT that... Amtrak will NOT accept the Vanilla Visas even though Amtrak CLEARLY advertises they accept Visa. Luckily I had enough cash to cover the cost of the train ( Amtrak NE Regional Train 174) for which I am riding as I type this but now I have a $500 JUNK VANILLA VISA CARD that evidently isn't worth the plastic it's printed on.

I WILL be contacting Visas' Cooperate Offices and ATTEMPT to get my money back and to ask them why they even put their name on it if it's NOT any good but after reading the horror stories of other people being SCAMMED I won't hold my breath!!! BUYER BEWARE of the Vanilla Visa!!!

You're a piece of lying ***. My husband sent in everything he was asked and the freaking receipt, and your people won't do squat.

Maybe it's time to contact the FDIC. I'm sure your organization answers to someone.

Card expired quickly, never was activated and cannot get a replacement card.

We thought our gift card was to expire 8/15. We never activated it waiting for a special purchase.

When we decided to use it and tried to activate it we found it had expired. Went on line to resolve and get a new card reissued. Never heard a word after that. Next month we called and was told we only had $70 on our $100 card.

It was never activated how could that be? We said fine just reissue a new card for $70. Had to send a paid bill (electric) to verify name and address..did that and still another month passed and no response to e-mail and no card.

VERY FRUSTRATING....no resolution. Guess we just have to let it go as our loss and VANILLA CARDS win...seems like a scam.

Card Balance Review

Received what appeared to be a used Vanilla Visa. It was sealed and everything. Called to check the balance with a representative who said it was not a Vanilla Visa. It clearly says it is on the card. Fraudulent card. Hard earned friends money down the drain. Vanilla Visa treats you like a suspect and a criminal when calling. I won't be purchasing these ever again.

Does not work for hotel stays

I have purchased One Vanilla Prepaid Visa Card two separate occasions, with two different cards, both prepaid cards had enough on them to cover the entire hotel stay cost and the surcharges but, kept coming back declined. It is unreliable and very embarrassing after traveling out of state for business, exhausted and ready to rest for the next day or to be checked in and later that night called to the lobby and told that your card was declined. Especially when traveling alone, in an unfamiliar state, feeling like you may be kicked out of a hotel late at night for a declined card.

Hello,

We are very sorry you both had a problem using this card during your trips. Whenever you use this card at a service establishment (Restaurant, Hair/Nail salon, car rental or Hotel), the merchant has the ability to add charges such as a gratuity or incidental charges.

However, only the amount signed for will actually be deducted. This practice is conducted to ensure the balance is not overdrafted as it is a prepaid card.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you have any other questions, you can also contact us here or via Facebook at facebook.com/vanillacard, Twitter @VanillaCard, @VanillaCares, Google+ at VanillaGift and on Instagram @VanillaGiftCard.

There's no comment from "Vanilla Cares" so it looks like the company has an unspoken ban on using it at hotels. I tried to use it for my hotel bill and found it didn't work and the manager said they will try to blame the hotel for having a $1,000 hold.

I used another card so I'm certain they don't have a $1,000 hold. They should be upfront about restrictions so you can make other arrangements and avoid the risk of being on the street with your money tied up in a card that's worthless.

Vanilla Visa Gift Cards Headache

I bought 2 X 75$ vanilla gift cards, the receip shows that I was charged for the activation of both. I gave them 3 days later and they BOTH NEVER WORKED.

Even when I enter the number on Visa's website it says it's invalid. I had to contact their customer service, they were little short of rude and idiotic, asking me if I was sure the card were really paid for in the first place...

I had to fax them the 2 cards and then wait to have replacements more than a week later, only to find out that they both have the same issue AGAIN, so I would have to start again... That's unacceptable !

Meanwhile I've been buying prepaid mastercards with no issue for years...

This was the last time I ever bought anything from Visa !

Card Registration Review

Bought $150 vanilla visa and can't register it, the card can't be found in their system. Now I have no home phone for 5 days because of this. Why not pull them off the shelves if there is an issue. Should have went a different way.

Gift Card Scam--Vanilla Visa

My $25 dollar gift card was worth only $20 when I tried to pay for breakfast this morning. I tried calling Vanilla Visa several times but call would be dropped whenever I tried to connect to a representative.

Where is the 5 dollars? More details: Bill total: $22.85. Date: 06/13/2014. Transaction Address: 1802 S.

Coast Highway, Oceanside, CA 92054. Card #:4847 35** **71 1588 . expiration date: 03/22. Approval #: 137536.

Time: 10:55am. Table: 18/1. Someone is having a great laugh and living large by ripping people off!!!!

My son had pancakes, I had an omelette. Had to dig a little deeper into my pockets to tip our server.

HI Vic,

We are sorry to hear about your experience using the card. Whenever you use this card at a service establishment (Restaurant, Hair/Nail salon, car rental or Hotel), the merchant will add a 20% charge in anticipation of a tip or an incidental charge (which could be more depending on the establishment).

However, only the amount you signed for will actually be deducted. This practice is conducted to ensure the balance is not overdrafted as it is a prepaid card.

I had the same problem. The deal is, and apparently this is in the fine print INSIDE the package so you don't know until AFTER you buy these ripoff cards, that at any restaurant, hair salon or hotel (that's what the Vanilla rep told me) a 20 percent hold is added to the card no matter what.

So the most the restaurant can run on a $25 card is $20. So yes, you better have the cash to make up the diff. Even at McDonald's, where they don't take tips. The 20 percent is not actually used, just held, preventing you from using the full $25.

The restaurant can run it for $20, you make up the difference, then you can use the remaining $5 elsewhere.

I was given this card or I never would have known, because I don't buy these kinds of cards at all. I'm always afraid something in the fine print will make it an unpleasant situation.
